Flower Details:
Pure white tepals, 3-4" diameter, fragrant

Fruit Details:
Aggregate of follicles, 2" long, twisted, usually with only a few fertile carpels

Fall Color:
Dark green in summer, often yellow to bronze in fall

Bark Details:
Smooth, gray, handsome on mature plants

Disease / Insect Problems or Resistance:
Basically trouble-free

Native Habitat:
Japan. Introduced 1862.

Other Features:
Dark-green foliage, upright densely branched shrub in youth, more rounded with age

Culture and Care:
Prefers a peaty, organic-based soil; does quite well in heat of South; full sun for best flowering
