Cultural Details for Acer macrophyllum

Common Name:
Bigleaf Maple, Oregon Maple

Pyramidal form, slow to medium growth rate

Flower Details:
Yellow, fragrant, produced in 4-8” long nodding racemes appearing with the leaves in April-May; each flower is approximately 0.33” across.

Fruit Details:
Samara, approximately 1.5” long, nutlet covered with brown pubescence, wings nearly glabrous, forming a 60degree angle from wing to wing.

Fall Color:
yellow-orange in fall.

Bark Details:
Gray to reddish brown, furrowed with small flattened platelets.

Native Habitat:
Alaska to southern California. Introduced 1812.
