Why Donate?

An arboretum is a museum of living trees and woody shrubs, supporting local biodiversity and preserving a sustainable environment. An arboretum provides educational opportunities through hands-on learning, classroom instruction, or simply observing “what works”. It is a place to both learn and relax by providing a contemplative refuge in the beauty of nature. As a type of botanical garden, an arboretum becomes a meeting place with a beautiful

backdrop for special events, a source of inspiration for home gardens, and a cornerstone for community pride. An arboretum reflects the horticulture and history of the area, strengthening the regional economy and increasing the quality of life for local residents and visitors alike.

The Boone County Arboretum has enjoyed a very successful infancy, with hundreds of people contributing their time and talent to create the Arboretum as we know it today. Many others, seeing the good we do for the public through our free tours and events, have joined Friends of Boone County Arboretum, our non-profit support organization. We sincerely appreciate the countless hours our volunteers and members have selflessly donated to our cause, and look forward to their continued support.

As these people get more deeply involved with the Arboretum, some also choose to support the Arboretum financially. The growth we have enjoyed over the past years can only be continued into the future through the generosity of private donors.

Friends of Boone County Arboretum (FOBCA), Inc is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports the work of the Boone County Arboretum. Donations are used by the Friends to support Arboretum programming, outreach and research activities, as determined by the FOBCA Board of Directors. If you are interested in allowing other generations to learn about horticulture and our natural environment through the Boone County Arboretum, there are several ways you can assist.

Donations to Boone County Arboretum can be deducted from your income taxes. We encourage you to contact your personal tax advisor for assistance on selecting a giving option that best fits your circumstances.

Ways to Give

These are very exciting days at Boone County Arboretum as we make plans for our future development. Part of this planning process is developing a funding strategy that will ensure the continued success of our public-private partnership. This funding strategy will be part of an all-encompassing master plan we will be creating soon.

A well structured master plan for an Arboretum is usually created by an architectural or consulting firm specializing in public garden development, and is necessary to guide our future growth. This type of master plan can be very costly, so helping to fund this specific initiative provides an excellent opportunity for donors to show their commitment to the future of Boone County Arboretum.

There are many other options for our supporters to give financially, including event sponsorship, general fund donations, employer-matching gift programs, and tribute gifts for recognizing a special person or event. These areas of support will become more developed as our strategic and master plans come into better focus.
