Ornamental Characteristics:
Flower - Clusters of maroon-yellow flowers appearing in spring before the leaves
Fruit - Abundant samaras maturing September-October; 1.5-2" long; glabrous

Fall Color - Dark red or brown
Bark - Grayish black with ridges.
Other Features - Probably the most vigorous of all persistent red leaved forms. Could be called a horticultural exclamation point in the landscape. Reddish-purple leaves.

Culture and Care:
Care Requirements - Full sun or part shade, well drained, fertile soil. Easy to transplant, can be rooted from softwood cuttings and sown from seed.
Native Habitat - Zones 5-8 of continental Europe, introduced to United States about 1756.
Diseases and Insects - Verticillium Wilt, some leaf scorch. Intolerant of 2-4-d.
