Ornamental Characteristics:
Flower - White, slightly fragrant, 4" across or less, 6 petals, with a faint purple line at the base outside
Fruit - Elongated aggregate of follicles, 1" to 3" long with showy red seeds, attracts birds
Leaf - Alternate leaf arrangement 3" to 6" long, obovate, entire leaf margins, and pointed apex. Leaves dark green with glabrous underside.
Fall Color - Does not develop good fall color, although leaves die off yellow to golden brown

Other Features - Does not flower well when young and may take as long as 30 years to reach full flowering potential.
Possible Use - Specimen or patio tree.

Care Requirements - Excellent for all types of soil, including limestone. Full sun to partial shade, transplant from container prune after flowering,prefers rich, well-drained soil
