Ornamental Characteristics:
Flower - Not showy, small, yellow-brown with purplish center.
Fruit - Upright, solitary, barrel-shaped, stalked cones. 3-5" long by 2-2.5" across.
Leaf -
Fall Color - Evergreen.
Bark - Gray-brown to brown forming a pebble-like appearance on old trunks.
Other Features - Extremely hardy form and more stiff and rigid than the species. A stately tree.

Culture and Care:
Care Requirements - Somewhat difficult to transplant. Needs a good, deep, well-drained loam, Pollution-free dry atmosphere, open, sunny, spacious location (intolerant of shade). Var.stenocoma is the hardiest of the species (has withstood –15 to –25 F).
Native Habitat - Asia Minor, best known for its historic stands in Lebanon, but attaining maximum size in Turkey.
