Ornamental Characteristics: Flower - A white-flowered sport of 'Texas Scarlet' with the qualities of the parent: five petaled, perfect, 40-60 stamens, single to double; borne solitary or 2-4 per cluster on old wood; 1.5-1.75" diameter. Jan-March in South, April further north.Fruit - Pome, 2-2.5" long and wide, yellowish green. Ripening in October; fruits are quite bitter but when cooked are used for preserves and jellies.Leaf - Fall Color - Nonexistent.Bark - Brownish, often slightly pubescent. Culture and Care: Care Requirements - Performs well in dry situations; full sun or partial shade with best flowering in sun; renewal pruning by elimination the older branches or cutting the whole plant to within 6" of the ground; prune after flowering.Native Habitat - China, cultivated in Japan.
