Form and Growth Characteristics:
Plant Type - Tree
Growth Rate - Fast, 3-4' per year.Crown conical to ovoid-globose, globose, or fastigiate
Mature Height - 50-75'
Mature Width - 20-35'
Longevity - Short-lived. Deteriorates rapidly after 60-70 years.

Ornamental Characteristics:
Flower - Slender drooping catkin, up to 4" long: mid to late April before leaves emerge.
Fruit - 0.12" yellow-green capsules drooping catkin-like clusters releasing white cottony seeds in late May-mid June.
Leaf - Deltoid-ovate leaves glabrescentvdark green above, with silver-white pubescence beneath.
Fall Color - Yellow
Bark - Bark at first dull gray, becoming grayish green to grayish white, later dark gray on basal part of trunk, furrowed, rough.
Other Features - Important sources of pulpwood and wood products.
Possible Use - Pulp, timber, tools, furniture, matchwood; also commonly planted as a street tree and ornamental.

Care Requirements - Easily transplanted. Prefers moist soil but will tolerate dry soil.
Native Habitat - Chinese plains; near sea level to 1500 m. Anhui, Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Jiangsu, S Liaoning, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Zhejiang
