Ornamental Characteristics:
Flower - Small red to purple, arching pendulous in May-June. Emerges with new leaves of season.
Fruit - Red samara
Leaf - Intense red coloration on new spring growth with burgundy leaves all season that mature to a spectacular red fall color. Holds leaves late into the fall.
Fall Color - Spectacular red fall color.
Bark - Young stems very green to polished reddish-purple and red, older graycast.
Other Features - Discovered by Twombly Nursery as a witch’s broom of a Bloodgood Maple.
Possible Use - Focal landscape tree; large foundation plantings

Care Requirements - Transplants balled and burlapped prefers well drained, moist, high organic matter soil.
Native Habitat - Zones 5-7, Japan, China and Korea. Introduced to England in 1820.
