The Arboretum hosts a multitude of public events throughout the year. Whether attending one of those or coming on your own, make the most of your visit by orienting yourself ahead of time.
Hours, Costs and Policies
As a public facility, the Boone County Arboretum grounds are open from dawn until dusk, every day of the year, with no charge for parking or admission. No county/state residency requirement - visitors from all around are welcome. Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed, properly restrained and cleaned up after. Collection of plants or parts of plants is not allowed without prior permission from the Arboretum Director.
An area map and directions to the Boone County Arboretum are available on this page.
Four informational kiosks spaced throughout the property provide brochures, maps and event information. A general map of the facility layout and additional details can be found in the official Visitor's Guide. Printed copies are available in the kiosks, or download a pdf version.
Our plant collection contains over 3600 individual trees and woody shrubs in 26 collection areas. The entire plant collection has been inventoried and mapped. You can search our inventory online multiple ways. Printed maps are available in the kiosks, or as a pdf download. You can also browse our web-based interactive map.
Features of interest include a children's garden, a butterfly garden, and a wildlife viewing area surrounded by a native grassland. There are also restrooms, baseball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts. These features are all interconnected by over two miles of paved walking / bicycling trails.
