Average mature size of 20-25' tall and 20-25' wide in the landscape. Vased shaped, multi-stemmed and round headed. Moderate growth rate.

Japan. Introduced 1881.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are greenish, borne in short glabrous racemes in May. Fruits are winged samaras, 0.75" long. The wings diverge at a right or obtuse angle.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves opposite, simple, ovate-oblong, 3-5" long, one-half as wide, long acuminate, subcordate to truncate, doubly serrate, glabrous or nearly so at maturity, dark green; petiole-0.5" long. Leaves change to rich gold and brown in autumn. Bark is smooth and gray.
Culture and Care
Prefers moist, well-drained soil in part shade; pH adaptable. In the wild this tree exists as an under story plant. Can be rooted from August cuttings. Zones (4)5-7.

Use as a small lawn tree.
