Mature Size, Growth, Longevity
Average mature size of 20-30' tall, 20-30' wide. Young trees are upright-oval in outline but with age may become distinctly mushroom-like and broad spreading. Branches become low-hanging. Growth rate of 12-18" per year.

Native to Japan.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are small, fragrant, yellowish, born in 2-4" long slender racemes during the early spring. Fruits are winged samaras, 1" long. The wings diverge at an angle of 60° or less.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves opposite, trifoliate, each leaflet 1.5-3" long, ovate to elliptic, medium green above, glabrous, whitish tufts in axils of veins below. Zelkova-like serrations, petiole- 3-4" long, reddish purple. Foliage changes to yellow and red in fall but is not always a showy display. Bark is smooth, slightly dimpled, gray.
Culture and Care
Prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil (tolerates acidic) in part shade or full sun. Zones 5-7.

A noteworthy landscape plant. Leaf drop can occur in hot, dry sites.
