Mature Size, Growth, Longevity
Average mature size of 30-50' tall, can reach 70' tall in optimal conditions. Width variable but usually similar or larger than height. Rounded to spreading habit with irregular branching pattern and uneven crown. Fast growth rate. Typically lives 50-75 years.
Native Range
Kentucky Native — U.S. and Southern Canada.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are yellow-green, in March-April, not ornamentally effective. Fruits are winged samaras, September-October, profusely borne, yellowish green, maturing to ash-brown. They persist into winter.
Leaf and Bark Features
Yellow-green to brown fall color, usually of no consequence. Bark is green to reddish brown on young stems, older trunks gray-brown, ridged and furrowed.
Culture and Care
Plant in full sun, pH adaptable. Zones 2-7. Susceptible to boxelder bug, striped maple worm, borers.
