Plant in average, moist, well-drained soil, in afternoon part-shade for best foliage color - heat may scorch leaves, protect from wind. Susceptible to verticillium wilt, leaf/root/collar rots, anthracnose, canker, aphids, scale, and borers, though none are typically serious problems.
Suggested Uses
Used as an understory planting.

Tree. **Slowly grows to 10-20' tall and wide, usually as a single trunked tree but can also grow as multi-stemmed shrub. Reddish-purple flowers in erect corymbs bloom in the spring. Fruits are attractive red samaras, up to 3/4" long, which contrast with the foliage. Leaves are 11-13 lobed, 2.5" across, golden yellow and sometimes edged with red. Lobes are sharply and irregularly toothed, ovate and lanceolate, sinuses shallow.
