Acer truncatum 'Warrenred' // Pacific Sunset® Shantung Maple
Tree. Grows to 30' high and 25' wide. Greenish yellow flowers, 0.33-0.5" long on corymbs. Bark is tinged with purple when young, gray-brown on older branches, fissured on mature trunks. Fruits are samaras, 1.25-1.5 inches long, held at a 90° angle. Leaves emerge reddish purple, turn dark green and very glossy through the summer, 3-5" long, opposite, 5-lobed. Yellow, orange, red fall color. Prefers moist, acidic soils with good drainage. Heat and drought tolerant once established. No serious diseases, but can get tar spot. Resistant to leaf scorch. Actually a hybrid of A. truncatum and A. platanoides, native to Northern China.
