Average mature size of 20-35' tall and 25-30' wide. Vase-shaped growth habit, flat crown. Fast growth rate. Short lived due to insects and disease problems.
Native Range
Native from Iran to Japan.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are a light to deep pink, threadlike, in summer. Fruits are gray-brown seed pods, 5-7" long and 1" wide, in September-October.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves bipinnately compount, 10-25 pinnae, each with 30 to 40 leaflets; leaves die green when killed by frost. No fall color. Bark is relatively smooth, gray-brown.
Culture and Care
Transplants readily. Extremely adaptable: withstands drought, high salinity, high winds, and high pH. Flowers best in full sun. Zones 6-9. Susceptible to vascular wilt disease, webworms, leaf spot, and rust.
