Corisca and southern Italy.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are monoecious, male flowers are clusters of 2-3" long, yellow-green catkins, female flowers are 0.25" upright reddish green strobili, appearing in early spring. Fruits are egg-shaped, 1-1.25" long - the largest fruit of the cultivated alders, often occurring in 3s.
Leaf and Bark Features
Fall color does not occur as the leaves drop while green or brown. Bark is brown when young.

Best near water. Performs well in infertile, dry, high pH soils.
