  • Buxus sempervirens 'Vardar Valley' // Vardar Valley Common Boxwood
    Shrub. Grows to 2-3' tall and 4-5' wide, slow growth rate but faster than B. microphylla. Creamy yellow flowers in clusters, fragrant, in April-May, attract bees. Fruits in 0.33" long, 3-horned dehiscent capsules, containing 2 lustrous seeds. Evergreen. Excellent dark blue green foliage. Easily transplanted, prefers limestone soils, pH 6 and greater. Zones 5-6. Roots easily. May develop sunscald, boxwood mites, and bronze leaf condition. Nematodes and root rot are also possible in heavy clay soil. Native to Southern Europe, Northern Africa, Western Asia, brought from Romania in 1935, introduced 1957.
