Vines can grow to be 30-40' long, but effective height is limited by size of the supporting structure. Fast growth rate.
Native Range
Pennsylvania to Missouri, Florida and Texas.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are perfect, corolla rich orange and scarlet, trumpet-shaped, 2.5-3" long, 1.5" wide at mouth. Borne 4-12 together, June-September. Fruits are capsules, 3-5" long, 0.75" wide, loaded with numerous flattened seeds, each with 2 large, transparent wings.
Leaf and Bark Features
Yellow-green fall color, not showy. Bark is light brown and glabrous; aerial rootlets develop between nodes.
Culture and Care
Grows in virtually any soil type, and is extremely rampant in rich soil. Best when pruned back to a few buds in the spring.
