Average mature size of 10-20' tall and 4-10' wide. Rounded habit. Fast growth rate in youth, with age growth rate moderates.

Native to Japan.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are slightly fragrant, white, 0.3" diameter flowers, borne in 4-6" long, terminal, racemose panicles from July to August on current season's growth. Fruits are small capsules, born in long terminal spikes, turning brown in fall.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves are dark green, arranged alternately. Tend to be clustered at the end of the branch, presenting a whorled appearance. Bronze red to maroon fall color, usually not showy. Bark is good looking, smooth, gray to brown, sometimes exfoliating.
Culture and Care
Prefers moist, organic-laden, drained soils in partial shade. Avoid hot, dry sites. Zones 5.
