Cotinus x 'Grace' // Smoketree
Tree. Grows to 15-20' tall and wide, fast growth rate. Large clusters of pink flowers, May-June, appear to be fuzzy and light, like puffs of smoke. The small flowers are light red when young, darkening to blue-green with age Small hard fruit, less than 0.5" in diameter, and usually inconspicuous. Reddish-purple foliage throughout growing season, fading to shades of red and orange in the fall. Hybrid origin from a cross between C. coggygria 'Velvet Cloak' x C. obovatus. Prefers well drained loam and sunny locations, but adaptable to wide variety of soils and pH ranges, including dry and rocky soils. No serious disease problems, however rusts, leaf spot, leaf rollers, and San Jose scale can become problematic.
