Average mature size of 2-6' tall and 2-3' wide. Slow growth rate.
Native Range
Coastal plain species, edge of ponds or bogs. Introduced 1765.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are white, fragrant, apetalous, look like small bottlebrushes. Lasts 10-14 days, April to early May. Fruits are 2-valved capsules, not showy, containing 2 shining black seeds.
Leaf and Bark Features
Brilliant yellow to orange to scarlet fall color, often on same leaf, color develops late.
Culture and Care
Requires acid, peaty, sandy loam soils and good drainage. Partial shade to full sun. Roots easily from softwood cuttings. Generally no serious disease or insect problems.
Suggested Uses
Can be used for foundation plantings, with its good summer foliage and outstanding fall color.

Shrub. Glaucous blue summer foliage, delicate mounded growth habit, good for foundation plantings. Overall not as spectacular as other varieties and not as cold hardy.
