Mature Size, Growth, Longevity
Average mature size 70-80' tall and 60-90' wide, rarely up to 140' tall in optimal sites. Round-headed, broad-spreading, with the lower branches curving upward. Medium growth rate.
Native Range
Native to Europe and Asia Minor, cultivated for centuries.
Leaf and Bark Features
Opposite leaves 10-12" long, pinnately compound with 7-11 leaflets, dark green in the summer. Leaves drop off green or a casual yellow.
Culture and Care
Prefers a deep, moist, loamy soil and thrives on limestone soils. Fruits as samaras, 1-2" long, body rounded in cross section, looks like a canoe paddle.
Suggested Uses
Not recommended for new plantings due to borer susceptibility.
