Gelsemium sempervirens 'Margarita' // Carolina Yellow Jessamine
Shrub. Grows to 10-20' tall and 3-4' wide. Medium to fast growth rate. Perfect, yellow flowers, fragrant, solitary or in cymes, February-April. This cultivar's flowers are slightly larger than normal Fruits are compressed capsules, 1.5" long, short-beaked. Yellow-green to purple-green fall color. Prefers moist, well drained, slightly alkaline soil laden with organic matter, but is very adaptable. No serious diseases. Native Virginia to Florida, westward to Texas and Arkansas, and down into Central America. All parts of the plant are poisonous.
