Juniperus conferta 'Blue Pacific' // Blue Pacific Shore Juniper
Shrub. Grows to 1-2' tall and 6-9' wide. Slow growth rate. Dioecious flowers, inconspicuous. Fruits are cones, subglobose, abundant, flat at base, 0.33-0.5" across, dark blue or bluish black, bloomy at maturity. Bright, bluish-green needles in summer. Often develops a bronze-green in winter. Especially adapted to planting in sandy soils near the sea-shore, tolerant of poor soils but does not tolerate excess moisture. Full sun. Zones 6-9. Plantings in the south susceptible to dieback, can happen on a large scale. Native to Japan, along the sea coast, introduced 1915. Lovely appearance when draped over a wall, or use as a low ground cover.
