Mature Size, Growth, Longevity
Average mature size of 3-6' tall and 6-9' wide. Somewhat slow growth rate when establishing, becomes fast with time.
Native Range
Sunny moist banks in Japan.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are bright yellow with 5 petals, 1.25" to 1.75" across, blooms sporadically throughout the season. Fruits are not showy and seldom seen.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves remain bright green to yellow, usually exhibiting little change in fall and holding late. Bark is glabrous, glossy, and bright green. Stems are slender and may zig-zag.
Culture and Care
Requires a loamy, well-drained soil of moderate fertility. Partial to full shade, out of the afternoon sun. Prune after flowering. Suckers profusely. Slow to establish, though looser soils allow for faster colonization. Zones 4b-9. Susceptible to leaf and twig blight, canker, leaf spot, root rot, very fertile soil will cause plant to grow weed like and produce less blooms.

Interesting free-flowering shrub that is tough and seems to withstand considerable abuse. Aggressive spreadder that may pose problems if planted in small confined areas.
