China and Korea.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are perfect, 6-petaled, 1-1 1/2"wide in 6-8"long and 3-5" wide panicles, white to pink, purple to deep red. Fruits are broad, ellipsoidal, 6-valved, dehiscent capsules, 0.5" wide, containing seeds that are seeds 0.375" long and winged.
Leaf and Bark Features
Yellow, orange and red fall color on same tree. Bark is smooth and gray, with age begins exfoliating to expose an inner bark with shades of gray to brown.
Culture and Care
Full sun, well-drained soil, best for southern gardens. Susceptible to powdery mildew, black spot, sooty mold, tip blight, leaf spot, root rot, aphid, and Florida wax scale are problems.

Beautiful exfoliating bark many have supurb fall color.
