  • Leucothoe axillaris 'Margie Jenkins' // Margie Jenkins Coast Leucothoe, Dog-hobble
    Shrub. Grows to 2-6' tall and 3-9' wide. Branches are zig-zagged, spreading. When compared to L. fontanesiana, L. axillaris is shorter and broader, has fewer flowers, smaller growth habit, and somewhat twisted and curved new leaves and stems. Slower growing than L. fontanesiana. Flower blooms on 1-2.5" long, pendulous, axillary racemes. Native Virginia to Florida and Mississippi, in lowland areas.
