Native Range
Maine to Ontario and Kansas, south to Florida and Texas.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are dioecious, greenish-yellow, early to mid-April in axillary clusters. Fruits are bright scarlet, 0.33-0.5" long, very ornamental.

Often excellent yellow to golden yellow in fall.
Culture and Care
Difficult to transplant. Does best in moist, well-drained soils, pH 4.5-6.5, full sun or half shade. No serious disease or inset problems.
