Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are dull white, 0.5" long, June-July, smell like freshly mown grass. Fruits are flat, brown pods, 2-3" long, 0.33-0.5" wide.
Leaf and Bark Features
No fall color. Bark is grayish-brown to black, usually glabrous, somewhat dingy in color and texture in winter. Diamond-shaped lenticels on second year and older stems.
Culture and Care
Easily transplanted. Performs best in loose, well-drained, acid or alkaline soil. Prefers sunny exposures. Fixes atmospheric nitrogen. No serious disease or insect problems.
