Mature Size, Growth, Longevity
Average mature size of 10-20' tall and 7-14' wide. Slow to medium growth rate, can be faster with water and fertilizer. Short lived, 20-50 years.
Native Range
North Carolina to Florida, Arkansas-Texas.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are white, stained purple at the base, 6-12", with a pleasing fragrance. Fruit is rarely seen.
Leaf and Bark Features
No appreciable fall color - leaves sometimes die off yellow to ash brown. Bark is glabrous with a course texture.
Culture and Care
Transplant in winter and early spring into rich, porous, well-drained, slightly-acidic soil, and full or partial shade. Zones 6-9. Essentially free from disease and insect problems.
Suggested Uses
A very worthwhile handsome tree as a specimen.
