Average mature size of 15' to 25' tall and 15' to 25' wide.
Native Range
Native to eastern Asia, primarily to Japan, Korea and eastern China.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are white with a pinkish to rose crimson center, fragrant, cup shaped, downward facing, appearing in early summer. Begins flowering at early age. Fruits are carmine-colored, about 1-3" long, containing scarlet seeds.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves 2 to 6", alternate, simple leaves with downy undersides. Golden yellow fall color. Bark is smooth and light gray.
Culture and Care
Prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade. More wind tolerant than most deciduous magnolias.

"Oyama" in the common name refers to an area on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa.
