Magnolia x soulangiana 'Lennei' // Lenni Saucer Magnolia
Tree. Grows to 15-20' tall and wide, medium growth rate. A stiff, broad shrub, flat across the top. Flowers 4" long & wide, 6 dark purplish-magenta tepals, white inside, early-mid May. Fruits are aggregates of follicles to 4" long, August- September. Yellow-brown fall color. Gray bark on older trunks. Prefers moist, deep, acid soils in full sun, can withstand light shade. Shallow root system, do not plant too deep. Prune after flowering. Zones 4-9. Root from firmwood cuttings. Gets regular tip dieback, occasionally substantial dieback. Sapsuckers like these trees, leaving circles of holes. Raised in Italy.

Tree. Grows to 10-15' tall and wide, medium growth rate. Large, fragrant flowers, rose-pink with milky white interior. Fruits are aggregates of follicles. Tatty yellow-brown fall color. Gray bark on older trunks. Prefers moist, deep, acid soils in full sun. Will withstand light shade. Shallow root system, do not plant too deep. Prune after flowering. Zones 4-9. Root from cuttings of firmwood. No serious diseases. Sapsuckers like these trees, leaving circles of holes around limbs. Stems fragrant when crushed.
