Morus alba 'Chaparrel' // Chaparrel White Mulberry
Tree. Grows to 30-50' tall and wide, weeping branches, usually grafted on a standard. Fast growth rate. Yellowish-green flowers, March-April, not showy. Non-fruiting. Bright green leaves. Fall color is green to yellow-green, usually later in season. New stems slender, yellowish green to brownish gray, smooth, more or less shining, slightly sweetish if chewed. Bark on younger branches (1-4") is light orangish brown, larger trunks have more brown color, exudes a white juice if cut on warm days. Transplants readily, soil adaptable, pH adaptable, withstands drought. Full sun to light shade. Prune in winter. Susceptible to bacterial blight on leaves and shoots, leaf spots, cankers, powdery mildews, scales, two-spotted mites. Native to China.
