The following taxa are (or were) represented in the collections at Boone County Arboretum. Additional taxa may be available in the trade that are not included here.
Populus nigra 'Afghanica' // Theves Poplar
Tree. Fast growing to 60' tall, 15' wide, 70 years or more. A tall and very narrow spire-like tree, used primarily as a sharp vertical accent or in a row as a very tall screen. Dark green leaves, yellow fall color. Older trunk bark nearly white. Amazingly adaptable, not particular of soil type or pH, tolerates dry conditions and even some standing water. Highly tolerant of urban pollution and inner city stress. Notably more disease resistant than Lombardy. Cultivated throughout S.E. Europe.
