Populus simonii

Mature Size, Growth, Longevity

Gows to 40-60' tall, with a vase-shaped habit. Moderate to fast growth rate. Very short lived, less than 50 years.

Native Range

Species native to Northern China. Introduced 1862.

Flower and Fruit Details

Inconsipcuous flowers, yellow, dioecious, in early spring, pollinated by wind. Fruits small brown capsules in summer.

Leaf and Bark Features

Deciduous: Bronze/gold fall color.

Culture and Care

Full sun, average water needs (water regularly but do not overwater). Zones 2-5. The leaves, like many poplars, are susceptible to leaf spot and abscise prematurely. Also susceptible to anthracnose, canker, crown rot, mistletoe, sooty mold aphids, beetle borers, caterpillars, scales
