Average mature size of 35-45' tall and wide. A densely branched pyramidal tree, becoming more rounded with age.
Native Range
Korea, Manchuria. Introduced 1878.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are white, occurring in 2-3" long, 20- to 30-flowered racemes, early to mid-May in great profusion. Fruits are small, ovoid-globose fruits, 0.25" diameter, numerous, red maturing to black in August.
Leaf and Bark Features
Bark varies in color from brownish-yellow to reddish-brown to cinnamon brown, may exfoliate in shaggy masses.
Culture and Care
Requires a well-drained soil and is best suited to cold climates. Can be rooted from softwood cuttings June-July. Zones 3a-6.
