Prunus x subhirtella 'Hally Jolivette' // Hally Jolivette Cherry
Tree. Grows to 15' tall and wide, with a multi-stemmed, dense, rounded crown. Fast growth rate when young (up to 3' /yr), becoming moderate as it ages. Pink flower buds open pinkish-white, 1.25" diameter, in late April - early may over a 14-day period, showy. Fruits are rare and not ornamentally important. Leaves are dark green, oblong-ovate, 2-3" long, alternately arranged, with serrate margins. Yellow fall color. Slender twigs are brown, mature bark is reddish-brown. Easy to root from May-July cuttings. Prefers moist, acidic soil in full sun to part shade. Pruning required to maintain tree shape. Zones 5-7. Relatively pest-free for a cherry. Introduced to trade in 1940. Use as a specimen, buffer strip, container, patio, bonsai.
