Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are white, perfect, fragrant, born in large (5-10" long, 2-3" wide) pendulous pubescent panicles, occurring May-June, after tree reaches 8-10' high. Fruits are dry drupes, 0.5" long, cylindrical, densely bristly, with 10 ribs.
Leaf and Bark Features
Yellow-green fall color Bark is gray and quickly shedding, rounded, slender with distinct odor when bruised.
Culture and Care
Transplant in spring into moist, well-drained, acidic soil, in full sun. Protect from strong wind. Prune in winter. Soft cuttings root easily. Zones 4-8. No serious disease or insect problems.
