Average mature size of 40-60' tall and wide, variable. Initially a medium growth rate. Overall, one of the fastest growing oaks, 32' in 16 years. Long lived, 200 years or more.

Japan, Korea, China, Himalayas; Introduced 1862.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are monoecious, male 3-4" catkins in March to April. Fruits are 1" acorns, sessile, involucre with spreading recurve scales.
Leaf and Bark Features
Leaves emerge light yellow, turn lustrous green in summer. yellow to golden-brown fall color. Bark is corky ash brown, deeply ridged and furrowed.
Culture and Care
Prefers acidic, well-drained soil, but adaptable. Likes heat. No serious disease or insect problems.
