Taxa and Plants of this Species at BCA
The following taxa are (or were) represented in the collections at Boone County Arboretum. Additional taxa may be available in the trade that are not included here.
Quercus robur x alba 'Crimschmidt' // Crimson Spireā¢ Hybrid Oak
Tree. An upright, tall, narrow tree that only gets about 15' wide, while reaching a height of 45' in 20 years, creating a narrow-columnar to fastigiate growth habit. The dark green to blue-green leaves of summer change in mid-autumn to red or a rusty-red color. Good resistance to powdery mildew. This is a hybrid of Fastigiate English Oak and White Oak. Good for streetscapes and home landscapes, especially in narrow or confined spaces. Very adaptable, like its one English Oak parent. The dense foliage makes it a good choice for a privacy screen or for noise abatement. Cold-hardy. Drought-tolerant. Urban tolerant, surviving in all soil types. Zones 4-8.
BT001785Quercus robur x alba 'JFS-KW2QX' // Skinny GenesĀ® Hybrid Oak
Tree. Zone 4-8. Grows to 45' tall, but only gets 10' wide, so stays quite "skinny", with an upright columnar to tightly fastigiate growth habit. Becomes a tall, narrow spire. Mildew-resistant. Leaves have about 9-13 shallow, rounded lobes, having a glossy appearance with their dark green color, becoming yellow or tawny yellow to golden brown in the fall. Bark is gray with vertical fissures. This tree was selected from second-generation seedlings of a sister of Crimson Spire Oak. Introduced in 2012.
