Mature Size, Growth, Longevity
Average mature size of 25-30' tall and wide under cultivation, but can occasionally reach 50' tall. Medium to fast growth rate.
Native Range
Northern China and Korea.
Flower and Fruit Details
Flowers are small, white, borne in 4-6" broad, flatish corymbs, on current season's growth in June, July and August. Fruits are ornamental capsules, composed of 4-5 carpels which split from the top, red to black in color, late August through November, containing seeds which are lustrous, brownish-black, and about the size of buckshot.
Leaf and Bark Features
No fall color as the leaves are still green when they drop. Bark on older stems is gray, similar to the bark on beech trees.
Culture and Care
Prefers a well-drained, fertile soil, pH adaptable, full sun. No serious disease or insect problems.
